Åhus, Sweden

Maria and Johan got married in my hometown Åhus so it was quite special to photograph this classic wedding. Maria and Johan went to school together and they got together in upper level, but it only lasted for three weeks. But then they started dating in college and they have been together ever since. They both share a love for design, especially interior design and Maria designed her gorgeous wedding ring.

Maria and Johan got engaged already in 2002, but it took another ten years, including some encouragement and two beautiful children later, until Johan proposed. Johan proposed on the very same spot that they had got engaged 10 years earlier, in a park by the water. He went down on his knee and popped the question and Maria said she cried, cause she had almost given up on her dream wedding. But in fact, Johan had planned for the proposal over the last year.

Johan and his groomsman, his younger brother, got ready at Maria and Johan’s beautiful home. Maria and her younger twin sisters joined them after hair and make up and did the final preparations before the ceremony.

Åhus was a flourishing city in the 12th century and the ceremony was held at St Maria Church, also dating back to the 12th century. We photographed some portraits in the older part of the town, especially around the remains of the medevial monastery and hospice.

When everyone thought the ceremony was over, Maria stopped by the microphone and sang the first verse of Du är min man (You are my man) a capella. So beautiful.

The guests followed the bridal party to the harbour after the ceremony. A boat waited for the couple to take them to the reception venue across the river. The reception was held in a rustic boat club house, situated beautifully in the harbour. An award-winning bartender, an awesome DJ and lovely people made for a fun night that continued until morning on the dance floor.

The Absolut Vodka factory, established in 1879, is just across the river.

Yngsjö, Sweden

Louise and Joakim met in Oslo Norway seven years ago, when they were neighbours. Last month they got married on the beach outside her parent’s summerhouse in Yngsjö.

Louise and Joakim have the most beautiful proposal story. They were in Aspen on a ski trip and Joakim had planned to propose in the lift up to the mountain. For some reason, they ended up in different lifts and kept missing each other in the slope.

On their way to lunch, they decided to race down the mountain. Somehow they managed to crash in to each other and Louise ended up in hospital. So instead of proposing, Joakim was in the hospital with Louise, holding her hand, with the ring in his pocket. Luckily, it was just a sprained ankle and Joakim proposed the following day in the hot tub by the cabin instead. Just as romantic.

Louise is a designer working with fashion and she did all the design of the venue, all the stylish stationary and the flower decorations. She also designed her beautiful wedding dress as well as the bridesmaids’ dresses.

Almost all the guests had travelled from far away and the couple was especially happy to have many American and British friends at the wedding. The bride has lived in LA and she was so grateful to have her “American Sisters” there. Louise got ready with her old (Swedish) best friends and Louise said it was just like back in the days.

The ceremony was held at the beach and drinks were served at the summerhouse with stunning ocean view. The reception was held in the nearby village Åhus, hometown of Absolut Vodka. No cake was served at the reception, the cake was instead replaced by Mojitos. Of course.

I asked the groom of his special moment from the day he answered without any hesitation. “The moment Louise and her dad came over the corner and walked down the aisle!”

City Hall, Copenhagen Denmark

This beautiful couple had travelled from Hong Kong to get married in wonderful City Hall Copenhagen, Denmark. “We married abroad in a place we had never thought of before”, said this couple.

Stephen had always liked to go to Iceland, so Stephen and Cat travelled through Scandinavia for their honeymoon, with stops on Iceland, Denmark, Sweden and Finland.

We had planned to do the portrait session at some beautiful outdoor locations around the city, but on the day it was storm and winds 22m/s. We tried to take a few photos at the City Hall Courtyard, but we photographed mostly in the beautiful City Hall.

Cat changed into her evening dress after the reception and Cat and Stephen went out for a private dinner.

The wedding season of summer 2013 is only months away and I’ve had a fantastic increase of interest and wedding request from Sweden and abroad.

I’m so grateful to be asked to be a part of the wedding day and to capture the joy and happiness. Below are some special moments of 2012.

Junibacken, Stockholm

Stefan and Martina had a chic city wedding in Stockholm last month. The ceremony was held in stunning St. Johannes Kyrka, a richly decorated church in central Stockholm. Most of the bridal portraits are taken at Djurgårdsbrunn, quite a magical place in the sunlight with rivers and parks.

The reception was held at another magic place, Junibacken, a fantasy house with the places from Astrid Lindgren’s beloved children books. The welcome drinks were served outside Villa Villekulla, Pippi Longstocking’s house.

Ceremony: S:t Johannes Kyrka
Reception: Junibacken

Västervik, Sweden

This wedding took place on a peninsula with the ocean almost surrounding the family home. The bride and groom had travelled from Los Angeles to the Swedish countryside and the outdoor ceremony was held only meters from the sea.

Sarah, Henrik and I went by boat to one of the islands for a portrait session after the ceremony. It is wonderful to work with creative people and the groom had found an deserted island with only rocks, bushes and stones. And some seabirds.

It was just to take off the shoes and walk barefoot on the uneven slippery rocks. I loved this deserted location. It was so quiet and peaceful as the sun slowly started to set.

Ingarö, Sweden

Annette and Johan live and work in Switzerland but with both having Swedish heritage they chose to have a summer wedding at Säby Säteri, outside of Stockholm. Friends and family had travelled from far and most of the guests stayed at the lovely mansion, where the reception took place.

The ceremony was held in Ingarö kyrka, one of Sweden’s most popular wedding churches, founded in 1792. The couple walked down the aisle to live music by Zinniakvartetten and the groom’s sister played the piano breathtakingly beautiful during the ceremony.

Färgfabriken, Stockholm

This couple was not in for a traditional wedding instead they chose an industrial warehouse wedding. Färgfabriken is an old colour factory used as an exhibition space and the reception was held in one of the large spaces. Kari has worked on embassies throughout the world and currently works within the European Union and the guests arrived from various parts of the world.

The menu was completely vegetarian, with a fantastic mix of fresh veggies and fruits. The bride loves chocolate and the handmade chocolate was brought in from Brussels. Torkel been tour leader for bands like Deerhunter and has worked extra as DJ at the largest nightclubs in Stockholm, so the play list was absolutely amazing and a lot of the guests danced until sunrise.

Great people; great party.

Chocolate: Vandenhende

Möja, Sweden

Stockholm archipelago is quite a magic place, the many small islands, the clear water, the flat rocks and lush meadows. It’s idyllic and peaceful, almost like the time stood still or perhaps like travelling back in time.

This is the place where Johanna and Urban got married and the ceremony was held outdoors overlooking the bay. The officiant Helena Valentin, held a beautiful ceremony. It was an intimate family wedding and their two beautiful daughters were bridesmaids, dressed in crochet dresses just like their mother.
